- ARTIST: Léon
- SONG: Falling
SO ALEX, WHY IS THIS YOUR SONG OF THE WEEK?
One of the beautiful things about how the music industry works these days is that there’s been a return to the time when you released a song, sometimes a couple of times over, it grew in popularity steadily and you had your colossal hit after a period of several months or so.
Sometimes that’s a bad thing, but in the case of Sweden’s latest female pop export Léon it’s a bloody marvellous thing. We shall explain henceforth. You see, ‘Falling’ actually got released almost a year ago but to say it’s initial performance was modest is an understatement.
Thankfully, her record company have now seen fit to repromote it as a single with a colourful video and everything – hence the healthy radio airplay it’s currently enjoying – and it’s now on course to become her breakthrough hit. And deservedly so.
For ‘Falling’ is nothing less than an instantly likeable 60s influenced shuffly sad banger about still being in love with an old flame that’ll have you, like the lady herself, dancing around a glass of wine or two.
‘Falling’, along with Léon’s self titled album, are available to stream and download now via BMG. Twitter: @itsleonleon
