#SongoftheWeek: Izzy Bizu – ‘Faded’

  • ARTIST: Izzy Bizu
  • SONG: Faded

SO ALEX, WHY IS THIS YOUR SONG OF THE WEEK?

Unlike most people, my knowledge of Izzy Bizu came prior to her break through as a solo artist in 2016. Prior to that, she was a member of SoundGirl, a clever if not quite big pre-Little Mix who supported Pixie Lott on tour and had a genuinely brilliant album in the works before fate had other ideas.

I always felt she deserved to be bigger, and the music industry seems to agree, and she has happily not been lost to obscurity, with some brilliant singles and industry plaudits from the BBC ‘Sound of…’ and BRITs Critics Choice as well as support slots for Coldplay and Rudimental coming her way.

With last year represented by a stopgap EP of four new songs, she has her second album – The Things We Do For Love – in the can, albeit delayed for obvious reasons at the present time, and this brilliant new single from it.

‘Faded’ is an unusual, captivating release. It’s galacial synths and 80s feel is in marked contrast to her voice, with its hark backs to Ella Fitzgerald and Amy Winehouse. A supremely cool sound for a lazy summer day in lockdown? Most definitely.

‘Faded’ is available to stream and download now, and Izzy’s new album ‘The Things We Do for Love’ will be released later this year, both via Epic/Sony Music. Twitter: @IzzyBizu
