- SONG: Don’t You Forget
SO ALEX, WHY IS THIS YOUR SONG OF THE WEEK?
It’s been a while since we last heard from Louis York – in fact when we last wrote about new stuff from them it was Christmas last year. Praise be though, as Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony are back today with a brilliant new single.
‘Don’t You Forget’ is a special record that proudly wears it’s influences on it’s sleeve – literally. And just one listen to this brass heavy, feel good belter immediately makes you wonder if Hitsville USA is still alive and well.
Calling to mind late 70s Stevie Wonder, and with the kind of songwriters’ lyric that few seem to do much of nowadays, ‘Don’t You Forget’ is both immensely likeable and yet isn’t in the habit of displaying it’s latter year Motown inspiration to the point of parody – the best kind, we say, and on this basis Louis York appear to be the masters at it. Welcome back fellas.
