- ARTIST: Kylie Minogue
- SONG: New York City
SO ALEX, WHY IS THIS YOUR SONG OF THE WEEK?
Finally, something is happening this weekend which we never thought we’d see the day of. 14 years after she had to cancel her appearance on the Pyramid stage owing to her breast cancer diagnosis, actual Kylie Minogue is actually finally performing at this year’s Glastonbury festival in the ‘Legends’ slot on Sunday previously occupied by such illustrious company as Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie.
Oh yes – and not only is there the new summer shows tour here in Blighty, but there is of course the small matter of a brand new hits collection, out today, bringing together all of her old classics from the last 30 years, and as is customary, there’s an aces brand new single to go with it too.
‘New York City’ first had its premiere on the tour for her last album, last year’s chart topping ‘Golden’, but has now been recorded in a new studio version for this compilation and is at once a joyous, disco flecked affirmation of her greatness as it is a celebration of her career to date and this milestone gig she’s sure to be remembered for for years to come after this weekend.
Though we doubt highly that Ms. Minogue reads this here corner of the interweb, we’ll take this opportunity to say a hearty congratulations to you Kylie, and here’s to three more decades and many more of you as legendary pop royalty.
‘New York City’ is available to stream and download now, and ‘Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection’, the new album bringing together all of Kylie’s greatest hits, is out now, via BMG. Kylie’s set on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, along with coverage of the whole weekend, can be watched live online on Sunday afternoon from 3:45pm, or in full on BBC One at 6pm.
