- ARTIST: Mark Ronson feat. Lykke Li
- SONG: Late Night Feelings
SO ALEX, WHY IS THIS YOUR SONG OF THE WEEK?
Regular readers of this here blog will know I am a fan of Transatlantic superstar DJ and producer Mark Ronson, albeit in the sense of subscribing to the view that none of his best work is what everyone else considers it to be (i.e. ‘Valerie’ with Amy Winehouse or indeed ‘Uptown Funk’ with Bruno Mars).
So you can imagine my surprise that of late, Mr Ronson has produced not one but two singles on the trot that I agree on with everybody else: ‘Nothing Breaks Like A Heart’, his cod-country delight of a last single at Christmas with everyone’s favourite offspring of Billy Ray and hammer licker, Miley Cyrus.
And now there’s this new single and – as someone cooler than I might describe it – ‘proper big tune’, featuring guest vocals from Lykke Li, the Swedish icepop maiden we first encountered on her stunning ‘Youth Novels’ album about ten years ago, as well as a quite good thing she did with Röyksopp on their ‘Junior’ album around the same time that we also rather loved.
It’s the moody yet blissfully hypnotic and catchy soundtrack to a thousand sunsets going down at Pacha or Cafe Mambo with a mojito in hand. It’s also safe to say that if this isn’t to this summer what George Ezra’s ‘Shotgun’ was to the long heatwave scorched summer of 2018, then something won’t be quite right. An exquisite record from start to end.
