Welcome back to our second installment for this weekend’s #StrictlyLiveBlogging – coming to you on this, Movie Week of the hit BBC celebrity dance show Strictly Come Dancing. Tonight we’ll be here live blogging once again, as the results of the second public vote come in, and we find out which couple won’t be returning for a sequel next week in the second dance off of the series.
We’ve got our warm-up starting at 6:30pm with our look back at last night’s dances, and a look ahead to tonight’s show, before we go live at 7:15pm with the results show on BBC One, breaking all the dance off news as it happens.
Don’t forget as always to swipe down on your phone or tablet or press F5 on your laptop or PC to refresh to ensure you’re getting all the updates, and you can also leave your comments below or by Tweeting us with the hashtag #StrictlyLiveBlogging.
6:30pm
Welcome to tonight’s live blog! Let’s firstly take a recap of last night’s action…
Last night was an annual tradition in the Strictly calendar, as all fourteen couples performed dances inspired by popular films as part of Movie Week. And it was good news for Aston and Janette, as they came top of the leaderboard for the second time in this year’s series so far with their Trolls inspired Cha Cha Cha to Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’, scoring a total of 35 points.
Alexandra and Gorka finished second on the leaderboard with a total of 33 for their American smooth inspired by My Fair Lady, whilst Joe and Katya also impressed with 32 for their Viennese waltz from Dr Zhivago. However, The Reverend Richard and Dianne had a tough night of it, finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard for a second week, only scoring 14 for their Flash Gordon take on a Paso Doble.
Also down at the bottom end of the leaderboard were Ruth and Anton with their James Bond take on a Rumba, and following Brendan’s heated row with head judge Shirley that sent social media into a frenzy, he and Charlotte Hawkins came away with 17 for their Top Gun style Tango, failing to draw much better positive comment after last week’s Cha Cha Cha slip up.
6:45pm
Tonight, the two lowest scoring couples following the public vote will dance again in the dance off, before the vote is cast by the judges to send the second couple of the series home.
Also on tonight’s show, there’s a Disney themed opening group dance from the professional dancers, and actress and singer Sheridan Smith will perform a track from her self titled debut album live in the studio:

25 minutes to go! Before tonight’s results, let’s take a look at how the great and good on social media reacted to last night’s dances…
Bestselling author and self confessed Strictly superfan Marian Keyes has had the repeat button on Aston and Janette’s Cha Cha Cha…
…and she also made a startling observation on Simon Rimmer’s Buzz Lightyear get-up from his quickstep last night:
6:55pm
JK Rowling also voiced her dissatisfaction at the undermarking of Jonnie and Oti’s Paso Doble…
Whilst Eamonn Holmes rallied the troops to ensure his wife Ruth (and Anton) got through another week of the public vote:
And birthday girl and last week’s dance off casualty Chizzy Akudolu (happy birthday if you’re reading this Chizzy) felt the love and happy returns from her fellow class of 2017:
7:00pm
15 minutes to go!
7:05pm
Who do we think’s going home then? I have a sneaking suspicion Charlotte might be in trouble after the standoff between Brendan and Shirley last night…possibly The Reverend and Dianne too. We’ll find out very soon!
7:10pm
5 minutes to go…
7:15pm
Here we go people…
7:17pm
Wow…loving the combination of the professionals dancing with the actual animations from Aladdin, The Lion King and Frozen!
7:19pm
Karen is an absolutely beautiful Ariel! Loving the dance to ‘Be our Guest’ as well!
7:24pm
We did love Brian and Amy’s reaction to their 5 from Craig!
7:26pm
Here we go with the first lot of couples who are through to next weekend’s show:
- Gemma and Aljaz!
- Alexandra and Gorka!
- Charlotte and Brendan!
- Brian and Amy!
- Joe and Katya!
- Aston and Janette!
And the first couple in the dance off are…
…Simon and Karen!
Bit shocked to see him here if I’m honest!
7:32pm
Time now for a performance by Sheridan Smith, performing her cover of ‘My Man’ from her self titled debut album, out next month. Giving us all the Elaine Paige teas in the process! Nice professional dance from Chloe and Giovanni accompanying it too!

7:41pm
The next six couples safely through to next weekend are in:
- Mollie and AJ!
- Jonnie and Oti!
- Debbie and Giovanni!
- Davood and Nadiya!
- Ruth and Anton!
- Susan and Kevin!
Which means Reverend Richard and Dianne are joining Simon and Karen in tonight’s dance off! Gonna be a tough one tonight as we love both these two!
7:48pm
Here we go with the second dance off…Simon and Karen are going first again with their Toy Story inspired quickstep.
7:49pm
Oh dear. Simon’s letting the side down again with his footwork. Maybe it’s because he knows he’s in this position? Either way it’s not having the same impact as last night for me.
7:51pm
The Reverend Richard and Dianne are next again with their Paso from Flash Gordon. Definitely a lot more conviction if not just as much with the framing than last night. He’s kept his hands together as well like the judges said!
7:53pm
It’s now time for the judges to vote again…here goes…
Craig has voted Simon and Karen…
Darcey has voted Simon and Karen…
Bruno has also voted Simon and Karen…
…which means The Reverend Richard and Karen are the second couple to be voted off this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. It’s bye bye to the Beauty and the Priest!
7:56pm
That’s it for this weekend of #StrictlyLiveBlogging. Thanks as always for reading along and hope you enjoyed it. We’ll see you back here next Saturday and Sunday for our next edition…in the mean time…keeeep blogging!
